[The Blog] @PDCPC - Imprisoned & Free

Imprisoned & Free

Posted by on

Being free AND imprisoned. It’s a paradox that’s coming true for many men at Ironwood State Prison each year, thanks to the important work of Kairos Ministry and many members of PDCPC.

Ironwood State Prison is a minimum-medium security prison about 97 miles away from PDCPC on 640 acres in Blythe, CA. The facility’s designed capacity is approximately 2,200 inmates, but currently, there are 3,280 inmates housed on it’s premises.

Members of PDCPC travel to the prison monthly to spend time with prisoners & to remind them that they are loved and that they are not alone on their journey to rehabilitation.

We know that the ministry of restoration and rehabilitation are of primary importance in the Kingdom of God and in the Way of Jesus. He proclaimed it himself in the Gospel of Luke (4:18-19) when he took the Isaiah scroll and read:

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

So too, we want to join Jesus in this ministry of freedom and rehabilitation. We want to see ALL men, women, and children free to be themselves and live the lives they were made for. We invite you to join many from our church in extending the freedom, love, and assurance of Christ to those who are incarcerated at Ironwood. Coming up in November, we have the opportunity to serve and help put on a special weekend event for the inmates. There are four ways you can participate:

1) Visit the prison (monthly, or for the special events, men only)

2) Participate in the Sunday graduation in November

3) Decorate a shield that will be given to a prisoner (children)

4) Pray for the ministry

Let’s go together and empower those who find themselves imprisoned to be themselves, and to live the lives they were made for.

Here's a video for some extra encouragement.
