Senior Luncheons Senior Luncheons are under the direction of Stu and Nancy Parry and their committee. They will be held at 11:30 a.m. in Miller Hall on Friday, January 27 and Friday, March 9, 2012. All adults are invited to attend. A light lunch is followed by entertainment. You may register between services at the Congregational Life table on the patio on Sundays prior to the events. Registration fee is $10 and prepayment is required. This year’s programs will be given by the following:
Read With Me The volunteers in this program assist the children one morning a week at Oasis Elementary School in Thermal in learning to read and speak English. You don’t need to be a trained teacher. You just need to love children and want to help them achieve a better life for themselves through learning English and education in general. Just Walk Across the Room A study based on a book by Bill Hybels, the founding pastor of Willow Creek Church in suburban Chicago. He ask the question, “What if you knew that by simply walking across the room and saying hello to someone you could change that person’s “forever”? Just Walk Across the Room brings relational evangelism into the 21st century. Watch for times offered in the Sunday Magazine. The Power of a Whisper This 4-week course based on a somewhat autobiographical book by Bill Hybels, provides inspiration and vision for what can happen when you intentionally listen for God’s promptings and respond decisively to what you hear. It will challenge you to summon the courage to follow God’s voice and discover how to live “wide open” for Him. Classes begin in October, 2011. Bible Studies Several Bible Studies to help you grow spiritually in a fellowship atmosphere. Backpack for CVRM PDCPC members donate backpacks and school supplies to give to the children at the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission. The Stephen Ministry This is an inter-personal ministry to give extra support to those with special needs. Many trained Stephen Ministers are now working with members of the congregation. For more information, click here. Men’s Breakfasts The Men’s Breakfasts are held twice a year in the fall and spring. Their goal is to encourage fellowship among the men of PDCPC and their friends. A prominent sports figure is invited to give his testimony and bring an inspirational talk. Mariners Mariner Bus Trips provide opportunities for all members and friends of the church to visit new places and make new friends. We usually have one trip a month beginning in December through April. In the spring we have a three-night extended trip. Dinners for 8 Sign-up times are available on Sunday mornings-late in the year and between services-to join groups of eight for dinner and fellowship after the first of the year. Hostesses volunteer and guest participate in providing food for a brunch/lunch or dinner. Especially good opportunity for new members to get acquainted in small group setting. |
