What is ...........?

A GIFT is a voluntary transfer of an item of value, without consideration, made during one's lifetime

A BEQUEST is a voluntary transfer of an item of value, without consideration, received from a decedents estate.

AN ENDOWMENT is a fund that provides an income for future generations for a specific purpose, wherein the principal is invested for perpetuity and only the income from the investment is distributed in accordance with the intent of the donor.

Can I restrict my contribution?

Donors may direct their gift, bequest or endowment to or for a specific purpose. These are deemed to be "restricted" and will be managed accordingly.

Advantages of Giving to the Endowment Fund

  • You will experience the joy of sharing in the ministry of Christ.
  • You will help to extend the mission of Christ in your community and around the world.
  • You will indicate how you would like the funds to be used.
  • You may be able to improve your tax position.
  • You can create a legacy for years to come.
  • You can make your estate plans while you are living.
  • It is effective, flexible and easy.
To be young is to enjoy the programs and benefits of a church you did not build; to be mature is to build churches whose programs and benefits you will probably never enjoy.

Absent donor direction

Unrestricted gifts and bequests shall be applied as follows: (i) 50% shall be deposited into the Trust Fund with the principal remaining intact unless congregation deems otherwise. Interest from the Trust Fund goes to the Special Project Fund. (ii) 50% shall be deposited into the Special Projects Fund. Expenditures from this fund will be used in accordance with Session policy which currently states: operating deficit; for major maintenance and repairs; and for Christian benevolences or humanitarian projects

How to Give a Gift, Bequest or Endowment Fund

Gifts to the Endowment Fund may take many forms:

SECURITIES are generally deductible at full market value and taxes on the gain may be avoided.

REAL ESTATE is also generally deductible at full market value.

LIFE INSURANCE POLICIES may be used to designate the Endowment Fund as a beneficiary.

CHARITABLE TRUSTS provide the donor with income for life with the assets passing to the Endowment Fund.

WILLS AND TRUSTS may be used to designate assests to the Endowment Fund.

LIQUID ASSETS such as cash, treasury bills, and money market accounts.

Who Manages the Fund?

Gifts, Bequests and Endowments are carefully managed and invested by the Board of Trustees in accordance with Session adopted policy.
