HOW DOES GOD SAVE US?

Salvation is God’s work in saving us from our sin and giving us eternal life. How does God save us? We might think of the three movements of God’s one act of saving us.

1. We were saved when God the Father chose us before the foundations of the world.

Ephesians 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 just as he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love.”

2. We were saved when God the Son lived, died and rose again for us 2000 years ago.

Galatians 2:20. “It is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

3. We were saved when God the Holy Spirit sealed in our own faith and experience what the Father planned for us and what the Son accomplished for us.

1 Corinthians 12:3b “No one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the Holy Spirit.” Romans 10:9 “If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

HOW TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN

A Christian is a person in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. To enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ, here are some things to know and do:

1. We need to be rescued. We mess up, disappointing God, others and ourselves. We can’t rescue ourselves from our sin, from our separation from God. But there’s good news!

2. God, as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, comes to save us from our separation from God and rescue us from the consequences of our sin.

God our Father chooses us for his purposes before anything was created. This is called “election”. Then God sends Jesus God’s Son to the earth to accomplish our rescue. By his death and resurrection God forgives us and brings us back to God. God the Holy Spirit opens our eyes to understand the good news and to believe in Christ.

3. Our response to God’s grace is turning from our sin. This is called “repentance”. We ask Jesus Christ to forgive us from all our sin.

4. The Holy Spirit then lives in us, Christ with us and for us. The Holy Spirit empowers us to live for God as part of the church, Christ’s body on the earth. We look forward to worshipping and serving God daily, as part of God’s change agents in our world. We trust in Christ for God’s gift of eternal life.
